The weather gods were smiling down upon Central Florida for Tangerine 2007.
Mild sunny days with a light to moderate mainly east crosswind both
Saturday and Sunday. Attendance was down from the previous year, perhaps
due to the rising costs of unleaded gasoline and lodging near the field.
In addition to the nursery on the southeast side of the field, we now have road construction on the north/northeast side to keep up company.
Nevertheless, 24 pilots registered for this year's contest and I believe everyone who attended, made some new friends and hopefully left with a smile on their faces.

Contestant judging was used, along with assistance from my Co-CD, Orlando
Frets. Also, thanks to Don Lowe and Joe Hooker for their judging skills.
4 FAI pilots did double duty by judging themselves (3 judging 1 flying,
etc.) and some of the lower classes. It seemed to work out well for the
FAI guys. We were able to complete 3 3/4 rounds on Saturday with
Advanced Class postponing until Sunday morning due to darkness. The sun
in your face in the morning is no picnic at RCACF. In fact, it's brutal.
Flying on both days commenced around 10:30 am with last flights of the day
finishing by 5:00 pm. Club member Brien Casey was in charge of the audio
system, keeping the flight order and the flight lines moving throughout the
duration of the contest. Melissa Hester was in charge of scoring.
Super job, Melissa. Club Member Jim Lackey was in charge of food preparation and T.J. was responsible for contest set up and take down.
Fred Hale and Orlando Frets ran registration. I owe a debt of gratitude
to all of these volunteers for making it possible for me to relax and compete, ultimately placing 1st in Advanced Class.

On behalf of RCACF, I look forward to CD'ing Tangerine 2008 and hope to see everyone from D3 (and others) try to attend this contest.
