DISTRICT 7Kendall O'Brien and Peter Carbin kept things interesting in Sportsman. Peter drew the last flight on Saturday (I was judging) and the wing was howling.. he got through about 1/2 the flight and it was very difficult to see his plane - so he landed, wisely, and took zero's on the rest of the flight. Shortly after this, on the way home, Kendall's plane was flipped upside down after it was secured in his truck.. the wind picked up the tail, flipped it back over the tail-gate, and cracked the fuse in half just before the tail section.. Kendall and his dad had it fixed in a few hours and made dinner that evening! Kendall won by 50 points! A close contest.. good flying guys. Harry Gould put in some great flights to win Intermediate - I believe Harry is about 75 years young. Bill Wallace and Chris Fitzsimmons has us all watching Advanced... as I recall, Chris won the first two rounds, Bill won the second two. I was watching the final round as Chris was flying... and really putting up a great flight.. when his engine died about 1/2 way through the flight. He landed fine, but knew the results of the engine stopping. I saw some of Bills flights and he was right on track also.. flying very well. The District Championships will be great for these two competitors! Masters: Jon Carter is flying much better but will work on his point-rolls as these are hurting him. Jon had some good scores in the 1050 area despite his rolls.. and he was pleased with his flying. There were three pilots in the ring again bidding for the top spot in Masters; Jerry Budd, Scott Covey, Rusty Fried. Jerry won the first two rounds by slim margins over Scott and Rusty. The third round was won by Scott with Rusty taking a close second. Jerry won the fourth round with many 10's on his score sheet - and I saw the flight - and would have scored him the same! A nice flight. Scott won the last round by 1 point over Rusty, Jerry coming in a close third. Jerry won the contest by 27 points over Scott, with Rusty just 80 points behind Scott. These three will have fun at the District Championship too. In FAI, Tony Frackowiak won but Greg Frohreich flew well taking at least one round. Greg was impressive with as little flying as he's doing. He hopes to get back to flying twice during the weekday's and at least once on the weekend. Both were a pleasure to watch.
