Nate Dixon Memorial Pattern Contest Report
Gary Weaver Field, Othello, WA
Written by Gordon Anderson, NSRCA District 8 Vice President

The Nate Dixon Memorial Contest was held August 5th with a total of 9 pilots. The contest was originally planned as a two day event but with the small turn out it was decided, at the pilots meeting, that we would fly 5 rounds and complete the contest in one day. The weather was pretty nice with a little wind, mostly blowing in.

Nate Dixon Contest Pilots!

Even with this small turnout we had pilots in all AMA classes and in FAI. Sportsman was the only class with only one pilot, all other classes had two pilots. Mike Lance was without his pattern plane and only had his Muffet to fly. We convinced him to go a head and fly in Advanced so John Gaylord would have someone to fly against. This gave Mike a little time behind the sticks but the Muffet kept dieing on him so he only flew 3 rounds.

Bill Bowen gets his Mantis ready to fly while John and Todd discuss the days activities.

My wife, Meri, could not join me at this contest because our daughter was delivering a baby, priorities! I became a grandpa 5 minutes before my first round flight, pretty cool.

Todd Cook’s girlfriend Jenny offered to help with the score keeping and she did a fantastic job. She pretty much took over the task and kept the event running smoothly all day. Now we have another person to help run the contests. Thanks Jenny!

We were happy to have a new Sportsman pilot join us, Greg Zettler. He did a great job flying the routine and I know he had a good time hopefully we will see him in future contests.
